"Seminole Elders Rebuff Governor" by Jane Wood, The Miami News, July 15, 1957

Description

During Governor LeRoy Collins’ 1957 trip to the Everglades, he encouraged the Miccosukee Trail Indians and the Seminole Reservation Indians to form one political unit. While the Seminole Tribe made an offer to include the off-reservation Indians in the creation of their governing body, some in the Miccosukee Tribe felt that their rights could only be fully protected through the establishment of a separate political entity.
