Title

Statement Provided by Committee of Seminole Indians (Betty Mae Jumper, secretary) in Joint Congressional Hearing on the Termination of Federal Supervision Over Certain Tribes of Indians, March, 1954

Description

In this statement, the Seminole leadership on the reservations laid out their vision for tribal reorganization and self-governance. Their response stated that their tribe would not be prepared to take over the responsibilities placed on it by an immediate termination of federal supervision. They argued that in another 25 years, the Seminole people would be sufficiently prepared to assume the task associated with managing their business ventures.
