Title

Segment of Interview with Seminole Educator Joel Frank, March 1984

Subject

This is a portion of an interview with Seminole educator Joel Frank, who helped manage many of the new cultural education programs that were established for Seminole children in the 1980s. In the tape, he recounts the Seminole Indians’ experience with various governmental programs, including termination. He postulates that the U.S. government’s attempt to revoke federal supervision of the Seminole Tribe influenced tribal elders’ adoption of educational programs and other BIA initiatives, which they thought would better equip the next generation to meet future social and political challenges.
